Muslims have a very proud history (along with issues like most religions/races).Lets hope the people on all sides tone down the rheotric and live and let live

Hindus also have a history and we are proud of it.
Despite all the agressions by the barbaric islamic hordes, Hinduism has not only survived, it has actually flourished.
We are proud of the fact that we didn't attack other countries and pillage other lands.

I think USCIS is successful in using the policy of DIVIDE AND RULE.This is the condition of pathetic LEGAL & EDUCATED immigrants. This is the reason why illegal & uneducated people's voice gets heard because they are united.

Checkpoints? What do you expect Israel to do?

Given a chance, they strap a bomb in their waist and rush to Israel!!

India has legitimate reason to attack pakistan ...

But Palestine is not like that. They are fighting for their right.Have you ever seen or heard about how people in palestin live their day to day life? How many check points they have to cross before crossing a mile? How much time they spend waiting on each crossing?

    ...
We have seen Isreals brutal aggression year after year.Killing civilians and kids year after year.I don't know how much more blood they need??

The minorities in India for the most part don't want to do anything with extremism.Like the rest of india, they are concerned with making a decent livelihood though there is a somewhat sucessful attempt at painting them all as extremists by the Hindu Right wing.

The Muslim minority in India is a supporter of Pakistan and its terror actiities. Not for the most part, but a tiny fraction and that is enough to create havoc in the country. We have our internal enemies with external linkages.

It is not embra*sment as they are not part of this crime. It is sad that they are to go out and state their innocence in ways they did.If anyone has helped in the attacks, I say go after them and punish them within the laws of the country. If that means feeding them dal/roti in jail, so be it as long as they get the punishment they deserve.

I agree with you that they should not be embara*sed. They have done nothing wrong but these incidents have also created room for self-introspection.Why is it that the muslims all over the world are projected as trouble-makers?Its high time that muslim intellectuals give this question a proper consideration rather than simply sweep it under the carpet saying that we didn't do all of this/we are being attacked as minorities/it emanates from poverity and lack of education and so on.

Pakistan is cornered and have to make some real effort to show that they are not trying to fade this incident away from the world's memory.Unfortunately, if they don't take quick and decisive measures, they could self implode. They better realise that it is better to fix their own dilipadated house than trying to destroy the neighbors.Though I am no war monger, for the short term I think a small 10-20 person tactical team can do some damage at precise locations.Tit for tat but with useful results

Well said, nobody on IV forums will advocate killing innocent Pakistanis. Many will support such precise bombings. We don't want to turn India into another terrorist nation.

Obviously the issue of internal problems has to be addressed. This is a source on which extremist can tap on.As someone mentioned on this forum, Saif Ali Khan ( who has a hindu mother, hindu ex-wife and hindu GF) cannot get a home in India's most cosmopolitan city.Neither can Javed akhtar ( an avowed atheist) or shabana azmi. One can only imagine what the normal minorities face everyday. And ignoring this as just complaints of an 'ungrateful' muslim populace does not remove the very real discrimination that minorities face in modern India.

Yes the internal problems must be addressed.I agree with you.I completely condemn the attacks on innocent christians and muslims. Its sad and its embara*sing for me despite the fact that I didn't have any role to play in it.But that has to be done without any discriminations.
Uniform civil code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Civil_Code) must be implemented.Muslim appeasement politics must be stopped by Congress party. We don't want to see any repeats of Shah Bano (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shah_Bano_case) cases. No special Shariat laws for Muslims.
Hindus must be allowed to procure land in Kashmir, unconditionally.Kashmiri pandits who have lost everything in Kashmir must be reinstated.Article 370 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_370) must be abolished.

This is why I keep hoping for a Justice and executive system that address this.Punish the guilty.I have seen people either ignore the issue of Gujarat/orissa or even defend it.If you put your religion/race shades on, then one can ignore/defend such inhumane events.Equal opportunity for employment/housing/schooling is needed just like in USA.Address in an academic way if affirmative action is needed and take the politics out of it.One of the parameters of a strong democracy is the treatment and security of the minorities.India would only be stronger for it and that is my sincere hope.xyzgc -See if you can finally get around to address this

I would not ignore Gujarat and Orissa as much as I would not ignore Godhra ma*sacre.I agree the guilty be brought to justice and punished.
Its difficult to do it internally and its more than difficult to do it for our external enemies.
But it doesn't make your point invalid.

Investment strategies of any kind - options, stocks, etfs failed miserably in the past couple of years.I dont think that argument stands well to justify against buying a house.

I have not opined as to the relative merits/demerits of house-buying ..all I did was mention that it is possible to attain those kinds of returns in alternative "investments" (in response to Jun's statement that he/she wasn't sure if 5% returns per annum were available anywhere).

I was saddened and anguised with the terrrorist attacks that happened in Mumbai.I hope India follows up on its tough talk and goes after the perpetrators, no matter their affliation or the consequences. That was a provocation and I would love to see LeT or anyone else responsible to pay for it.

But It is sad to see 'educated individuals' channeling their anger to demonize muslims who are equally upset with the Mumbai incident.Just like any religion/race, there are extreme elements among muslims. But this guilt-by-a*sociation should not have any place in modern society though sadly it does. There have been subtle and some not-so-subtle attempts on IV to protray all muslims as terrorists or all terrorists as muslim.

I agree that there are a lot of current terrorist activities that can be attributed to muslims and I condemn them. But Indian muslims have stood up against this latest incident. They are asked to wear their allegiance on the sleeve as if they are in some way responsible for this heinous crime. There are numerous examples of non-muslims who are terrorists but in my view that does not render the wh*le community as such. The gujarat genocide, the attacks on christians in Orissa and other parts are led by the VHP/RSS but the right wing marketing blitz has been so effective, a lot of people have defended this as a reaction. That is exactly the kind of excuse the LeT or any other terrorist organization would make.

Why is it so hard to say - Lets punish the guilty irrespective of their name or religion.Lets have a transparent Criminal justice system.Lets investigate any crime before guilty verdict is pronounced. That would render ineffective any propaganda that extremists use to recruit new members. Most of the people in this forum live in America and the law of this country would be in my view a good example of punishing the guilty irrespective of who and where they come from.

    Agree with parts of it.
    Disagree strongly with your statement

But It is sad to see 'educated individuals' channeling their anger to demonize muslims who are equally upset with the Mumbai incident.Just like any religion/race, there are extreme elements among muslims.

Most muslims are NOT upset with the mumbai incident, especially muslims in Pakistan. They floated the theory that this was the handiwork of Hindus and Kasam (or whatever the name is) is saffron and not green.
Only Some muslim moderates sound very sincere in condemning it.
You need to do some reading before making some statements.

On this forum itself there are folks like buddysinfo a.k.a aCool who have been leaving very filthy, unspeakable offline messages like mf***r, sf***r, ur mom f****d by paki, chop ur d**k off and so forth...a lot of these folks kept saying everything was a security failure, over and over again.Nobody is denying that but its an attempt to create a diversion.Just like politicians.
Check out the closed thread "Mumbai attacked".Read through it properly and if you are a non-muslim/unbiased muslim, please accept the truth.

Having said that, its wrong not to channelize your energy properly and bad mouth the entire community and IV threads are not to be used for it.I did it myself and I admit its wrong but its NOT gonna change the truth.

So you are ok with "colateral damage" to your GC ?I have never seen a school force creationism on a child, as for reading its the same everywhere (i remember in india my catholic shool was at pains to teach us that Ramayan was a legend...i didnt change my religion because of that). How many wars were fought during regans adminstration?Do you remember the tax rate during the Carter years?people were shelling out 17% on home loans while banks were paying 13% interest on their CD's.Media driven pontification is ok as long as you can substantiate them with valid reasoning.(Clinton years were good for us but some say that it laid the foundation for the dot com crisis, which lead to easy credit and so on)

Ramayan was an epic written long time ago.It is a story(like stories in bibble).Creationism evolved just to oppose evolution theory and cause confusion to the evolution theory. They say it is based on science, when it is not.BTW evolution is also a fact, it is not just theory.

Spending on needless wars are not helping economy. With this economy there is little chance for GC.If everybody wants tax cut, who will pay the debt.Keep borrowing? Some one has to pay the interest at the least..
Clinton balanced the budget, while taxing the rich.McCain is for the 'trickle down economy' which we now see what it really is(DOW down 800 points).Obama is for tax cut for the average guys and not for the 'trickle down economy' scam.

rheoretro Surely there is a distinction between illegal immigrants and Latinos (though I am not sure how thick is the line) but I did say that we cannot have even a whiff of support for illegal immigration be it from any country, including India.

It is unfortunate that the legal reform package cannot be pa*sed without the CIR and one of the reasons behind that is the tendency of pro-immigration groups to paint both forms of immigration with the same brush.

A few days ago, I received an email from SAALT (South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow), urging me to lend support to stop pa*sing the anti-immigration bill.Their logic was that there are millions of illegal Indian immigrants as well so we should support them. When I countered them saying that essentially you are asking us to support something based on whether they are "our crooks or not" and not on the basis of whether it is right or wrong, their reply essentially was that we know this better than you so just listen to our argument and support us.

Bottom line?Illegal immigration in any form is not acceptable.

If you don't laugh at the end of reading this then there's something wrong with you...Just imagine sitting in traffic on your way to work
and hearing this. Many Chicago folks DID hear this on the WBAM FM morning show in Chicago. The DJs play a game where they award winners great
prizes. The game is called "Mate Match." The DJs call someone at work and ask if they are married or seriously involved with someone. If the
contestant answers "yes," he or she is then asked 3 random yet highly personal questions. The person is also asked to divulge the name of
their partner (with phone number) for verification. If their partner answers those same three questions correctly, they both win the prize. One
particular game, however, several months ago made the Windy City drop to its knees with laughter and is possibly the funniest thing I've heard
yet.Anyway, here's how it all went down:

DJ: Hey!This is Edgar on WBAM.Have you ever heard of Mate Match?

    Contestant: (laughing) Yes, I have.

DJ: Great! Then you know we're giving away a trip to Orlando, Florida if you win. What is your name?First only please.

    Contestant: Brian.

DJ: Brian, are you married or what?

    Brian: Yes.

DJ: Yes?Does that mean you're married or you're what?

Brian: (laughing nervously) Yes, I am married.

DJ: Thank you. Now, what is your wife's name?First only please.

    Brian: Sarah.

DJ: Is Sarah at work, Brian?

Brian: She is gonna kill me.

DJ: Stay with me here, Brian! Is she at work?

Brian: (laughing) Yes, she's at work.

DJ: Okay, first question - when was the last time you had sex?

Brian: She is gonna kill me.

    DJ: Brian!Stay with me here!

Brian: About 8 o'clock this morning.

    DJ: Atta boy, Brian.

    Brian: (laughing sheepishly) Well...

DJ: Question #2 - How long did it last?

    Brian: About 10 minutes.

DJ: Wow!You really want that trip, huh?No one would ever have said that if a trip wasn't at stake.

Brian: Yeah, that trip sure would be nice.

DJ: Okay.Final question.Where did you have sex at 8 o'clock this morning?

Brian: (laughing hard) I, ummm, I, well...

DJ: This sounds good, Brian.Where was it at?

Brian: Not that it was all that great, but her mom is staying with us for a couple of weeks...

    DJ: Uh huh...

Brian: .and the Mother-In-Law was in the shower at the time.

    DJ: Atta boy, Brian.

    Brian: On the kitchen table.

DJ: Not that great??That is more adventure than the previous hundred times I've done it.Okay folks, I will put Brian on hold, get this wife's
work number and call her up.You listen to this.

    (3 minutes of commercials follow)

DJ: Okay audience, let's call Sarah, shall we?

    (touch tones...ringing...)

    Clerk: Kinkos.

DJ: Hey, is Sarah around there somewhere?

    Clerk: This is she.

DJ: Sarah, this is Edgar with WBAM.We are live on the air right now and I've been talking with Brian for a couple of hours now.

Sarah: (laughing) A couple of hours?

DJ: Well, a while now.He is on the line with us.Brian knows not to give any answers away!or you'll lose.Sooooooo...do you know the rules of
    MateMatch?

    Sarah: No.

    DJ: Good!

    Brian: (laughing)

Sarah: (laughing) Brian, what the hell are you up to?

Brian: (laughing) Just answer his questions honestly, okay?Be completely honest.

DJ: Yeah yeah yeah.Sure..Now, I will ask you 3 questions, Sarah.!If your answers match Brian's answers, th
